Celebrating diversity day a great success
On October 16 Bromley celebrated cultural diversity in the borough with a wide ranging and exciting programme of events and guest speakers. The day was also a chance to celebrate the abolition of the slave trade with a moving performance from Cator Park School called, A Journey.
The event was organised by the Council, the health authority, police, schools and many community groups and took place at the Civic Centre. With standing room only, it was a great success. Guest speakers included Sue Liburd, former International Woman of the Year, and Charles Griggs, Metropolitan Police Borough Commander of Bromley. Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of the Council opened the event with addresses from the new Chief Executive of Bromley Council, Doug Patterson and the Mayor of Bromley Council, Councillor Pauline Tunnicliffe.
The audience were treated to a wide programme of events including performances by local schools, poetry readings, a demonstration of tai chi, Indian dance, gospel singing and culminating in fashions from around the world.
