Benefit fraudster sentenced on the 19th September 2007
A benefit fraudster was sentenced on the 19th September 2007 at Bromley Magistrates Court bringing the total prosecuted to 125 since the inception of Bromley Council’s partnership with Greenwich Council in April 2002.
Council Leader Stephen Carr said “We welcome this prosecution as further evidence that all fraudsters will be vigorously pursued as part of our zero tolerance on fraud. The detection of this fraud by data matching, emphasises that closer liaison with other organisations is vital and necessary.”
Nourreddine Saidi, 32, of Wiverton Road, Sydenham, pleaded guilty to defrauding Bromley Council of housing benefits totalling £2,685 over a period between August 2006 and April 2007. The case was picked up through the government benefit match service. He had failed to declare that he was in employment. He was sentenced to a Community Punishment Order for 80 hours of unpaid work and was ordered to pay £250 costs.
The Council is in the process of recovering its overpayments of housing benefits in this case.
