Parents requiring a secondary school place for their child starting September 2008 will be receiving the Council’s admission information this week. A new booklet ‘Moving on to Secondary School in Bromley’, sets out everything parents need to know about Bromley schools and the admission process.

Bromley secondary schools achieve amongst the highest standards in the country and are very popular, so parents are advised not to delay in completing the Common Application Form, which comes with the booklet. The closing date for applications is Friday,19 October 2007.

Head of Admissions and Access, Mike Barnes says

‘The new booklet explains just why Bromley schools are so popular and what parents and children can expect. Many parents are unaware of the exact admissions process and often believe that because their older child goes to a particular school, they will not have to make an application for his or her sibling. This is not the case as an application must be made for each child. Another common problem is parents failing to state the maximum number of choices on the form, which means that if the first choice school cannot be offered, they may not get the second choice they would want.”

Bromley schools have a reputation for excellence and all its mainstream secondary schools have specialist status; an increasing number now offer a second or third specialism. Bromley schools provide the very best in latest learning technology and practice, balanced with traditional educational values.

This is the fourth year that admissions to secondary schools will be conducted through the Pan-London Admissions Scheme. All London boroughs, including neighbouring boroughs, work together to ensure that each child receives a single offer of a place on the same day. In the past parents applied direct to schools. Some applications received more than one offer, which often lead to delays in unwanted places being re-offered to other applicants who needed them.
