An exciting new campaign is set to showcase the work that residents, businesses and community groups carry out to improve their green space. Prizes and awards will be available in the ‘Beautiful Bromley’ competition, which is part of the wider ‘Celebrate Bromley’ campaign. The competition aims to reward the efforts of gardeners, photographers and artists of all ages and raise awareness of how to get involved in local ‘green’ initiatives.
“’Beautiful Bromley’ is not just a competition for our expert horticulturalists. We are also looking for people whose talents help others appreciate their local green patch, such as artists, poets and photographers. You don’t have to nominate yourself, why not choose to reward a local hero?” said, Patrick Phillips” Head of Parks and Open Spaces.
The ‘Celebrate Bromley’ campaign will also include the ‘People for Parks’ and ‘Sustainable Living’ awards. ‘People for Parks’ celebrates the invaluable contribution that ‘Friends’ and voluntary groups make to their local park or open space. The ‘Sustainable Living’ awards recognise the work of allotment holders across the boroughs’ 52 allotment and leisure garden sites. All awards ceremonies will be held during a 3 day showcase event during September 2008, in the grounds of Kevington Hall, Orpington.
Application forms for ‘Celebrate Bromley’ are available from libraries and leisure centres across the Borough as well as the Civic Centre, Bromley. Alternatively, application forms can be obtained from Bromley’s Landscape Helpdesk on 020 8313 4471 or landscape.helpdesk@bromley.gov.uk. Entries must be received by noon on Thursday 12th June 2008.
