main content Benefit fraudster prosecuted

08 January 2008

A benefit fraudster was sentenced on the 19th December 2007 at Bromley Magistrates Court bringing the total prosecuted to 135 since the inception of Bromley Council’s partnership with Greenwich Council in April 2002.

Council Leader Stephen Carr said “This prosecution again shows our determination to vigorously pursue fraudsters as part of our zero tolerance policy on fraud, that with tougher court sentences may have a deterrent effect.”

Donohue Dennis, 35, formerly of Beechwood Avenue, Green Street Green, pleaded guilty to defrauding Bromley Council of housing benefit totalling £980 over a period July 2007 to September 2007. He had failed to notify a change of circumstances in respect of moving to another part of London whilst claiming benefits from Bromley Council. He was sentenced to a six month Conditional Discharge Order, and ordered to pay £100 costs.

The Council is in the process of recovering the overpayment of benefit.
