Council supports new Borough Beat scheme
Bromley Council is giving it's staff the chance to put something back into their community by becoming Borough Beat Special Constables.
Volunteers will see this new and powerful initiative as a unique, life-changing opportunity to make a difference in the borough, enhance their own personal skills with specialist training and help make our streets, communities and public spaces safer.
Once trained, Borough Beat volunteers will carry out patrols in nearby areas - high streets, housing areas and parks, for example, alongside regular police officers. Their presence will actively deter crime and discourage antisocial behaviour, as well as offering additional reassurance to the public.
Skills such as leadership, conflict resolution, decision-making, confidence, assertiveness, personal responsibility will all be enhanced not only in this new role but also in their normal day-to-day work.
Recruitment finishes at the end of July with the aim of having the first BoroughBeat Special Constables on the streets by September.
Cllr Colin Bloom, Chairman of the Safer Bromley Partnership said: “The Council’s support for this new concept demonstrates our commitment to constantly improving the borough’s reputation as a safe place to live, work and relax. The skills that Council staff will gain from the world-class training that will be delivered are not just about policing – they help with the day job too, and all with the added benefit of putting something back into the local community.”
