David Jordan and Paul Clark.

29 July 2008

In his first year of teaching woodwork, David Jordan was awarded ‘Exceptional Tutor ‘as a result of nominations from his students at Bromley Adult Education College end of year awards evening. One nomination commented ‘David is certainly an inspirational teacher, especially for those new to woodwork and who therefore need a tutor who can capture and maintain their interest’.

More than 100 staff and students were entertained by a powerful and moving performance of ‘Masza’s dance’ set in pre-“solidarity” Poland by the Poverest Performing Arts Group. Masza’s dance was created from a poem written by Masza, a severely disabled, non-speaking teenager from Poland. Masza uses a wrist-operated switch to talk via computer. The Group shared the feelings of isolation expressed in the poem.

The annual John Miller Memorial Award, for a learner who has overcome significant barriers to learning and gone on to make considerable progress in their fine art subject was given to Jennifer Sheppard, who was presented with a magnificent wood carving of a swooping peregrine falcon.

Doug Patterson, Bromley Council Chief Executive, in his speech said: “ I can’t praise the College highly enough for the vitally important job that it does in providing a wide range of stimulating and high quality learning opportunities for all interests and abilities.”

The College is now taking enrolments for classes commencing in September, please ring 020 8460 0020 or go to www.bromleyadulteducation.ac.uk for more information.
