main content Orpington Masterplan consultation closes

03 July 2008

Members of the public, local businesses and everyone with an interest in the future of Orpington town centre are encouraged to send their comments on the masterplan developed by the Council and its consultants Entec before the six-week consultation ends on 17 July.

The masterplan is in two parts. The first is a short-term strategy to update and improve the appearance of the High Street whilst retaining access for cars. This sits alongside a longer-term development framework, identifying potential schemes for improving the central part of the town.

Julian Benington, executive councillor for local economy said: “The Council has set aside significant funds to be spent in Orpington on public space improvements, but it is important we hear the views of those who work, live or visit Orpington on the suggested improvements, before deciding how this money should be used.”

As the second largest town in the borough, the council has made a real commitment to improving Orpington’s competitiveness. The town provides an important centre for shopping, and provides a range of leisure and public amenities as well as being a business, education and employment centre.

A leaflet summarising the masterplan is available. The full details supporting this leaflet are available on this website and in all libraries in the borough during the consultation period.
