main content Noise Action Week will go with a bang

16 May 2008

Residents of Bromley’s estates will have the chance to learn more about what to do if they are troubled by noise in their neighbourhood during Noise Action Week, 19 – 23 May. Officers from Bromley Council’s Noise Team will be teaming up with Broomleigh Housing Association officers to run estate-based events throughout the borough.

The action weeks comes as the summer months approach and noise complaint levels rise. Approximately 4000 noise complaints are investigated by the Council’s Environmental Health team each year including noise from amplified music, barking dogs, car and burglar alarms.

The team works closely with Broomleigh Housing Association taking enforcement action where people continue to flout warnings about causing a noise nuisance to local residents. Offenders risk prosecution from the Council and risk losing their tenancy with the housing association.

The events, where information and advice on noise will be provided, will be held at the following locations;

  • Monday 19 May 2008 – Blyth Road Estate (2-5pm)
  • Tuesday 20 May 2008 - Hackington Crescent, Beckenham (11.30am-2pm)
  • Wednesday 21 May 2008 – CO OP Store, Car Park, Mottingham (11.30am-2pm)
  • Thursday 22 May 2008 – Play area, rear of Stockbury House, Ramsden Estate, Orpington (11.30am-2pm)
  • Friday 23 May 2008 - Bromley Town Centre (Outside Primark) (11.30am-3pm)

Noise complaints can be reported to Bromley Council by calling 020 8313 4830 or 020 8464 4848 out of office hours. Further information is also on the council website at www.bromley.gov.uk/noise.
