Community project applications invited for Crystal Palace Park
Published Friday, 31 July 2015
Community or resident groups are being invited to apply for the latest round of community grants for Crystal Palace Park.
The application deadline for this latest round is Friday 11 September, with a further application round also planned for January 2016. Community fund applications for up to £20,000 will be assessed by a panel and details about how to apply are available by visiting www.bromley.gov.uk/crystalpalacepark
Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of Bromley Council said, “We were encouraged by the levels of interest shown just a few months ago and these projects are now already underway. We have listened to the feedback we received and we would encourage potential applicants to come along to one of our surgery sessions where we can give specific advice about how to apply and what the panel will need to see in the applications.”
The confirmation of the community fund, of £240,000, for Crystal Palace Park followed the announcement last summer of a £2.4 million improvement programme, funded by the Mayor of London and Bromley Council. The community fund, which is continuing over the next 3 years, will award grants to community groups with aspirations to deliver specific projects and activities in the park.
Some projects or initiatives are already underway with a Crystal Palace Park Apiary now established following discussions with Croydon Bee-Keepers and Friends of Crystal Palace Park and the acquisition of donated gardening equipment. Also, over the summer, in partnership with Affinity Sutton, a 10 session programme has been developed by a local resident with proposals for a nature trail project. In addition, on National Play Day, in collaboration with Diddy Dinos and the local Library, there will be activities encouraging children and families to celebrate this day.
A supported volunteering project in the park has been agreed and will be developed through partnership with Oxleas NHS Trust. Finally, the National Sports Centre (NSC) has agreed to provide free access to facilities for community groups engaging with the Grants fund, subsidised access to help projects become sustainable and subsidised rates for sports coaches and tutors.
The deadline for applications is Friday 11 September at 5 p.m, with potential applicants being encouraged to attend one of the ‘how to apply’ advice surgeries. The surgeries which are being held on
