Consultation - planning for the next decade and beyond

Published Wednesday, 16 November 2016

A major consultation about land uses, planning policies and potential development sites across the borough is now under way until 31 December 2016.

This is intended to be the final formal stage of consultation in the development of Bromley’s Local Plan which will set the pattern of development across the borough over the next 15 years. Interested residents and businesses are encouraged to respond and register if they haven’t already, on the website by visiting www.bromley.gov.uk/LocalPlan. The consultation includes draft site allocations for housing, education use, business and employment land, and nature conservation. The plans also specifically mention both Biggin Hill and Crystal Palace Park.

Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of Bromley Council said, “Whether it be homes, schools for our children or premises for business to thrive and prosper, we need to ensure that we have the right development coming forwards in the right place. Our proposed Local Plan has to balance the need for land for development coming forward with the continued protection of the high quality environment that makes Bromley an attractive place to live and work.”

Councillor Carr added “There is rightly enormous interest in future development in the borough, particularly when it is near to where we live. Maintaining the unique character of Bromley is a priority and we want to ensure that our Local Plan encourages high quality development. Individual planning applications will be ultimately determined using the policies in the Local Plan so it is important to a wide range of people and organisations and I would encourage anyone who is interested to get involved in this consultation.”

Responses to this consultation will be taken into account in finalising the Draft Local Plan and will form part of the information which the council submits to the Secretary of State for independent examination in 2017 by a Planning Inspector.
