Bromley celebrates Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee

Published Thursday, 12 April 2012

Jubilee fever is hotting up in Bromley as preparations take a step forward for May’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in the town centre.

A unique all day public event will commemorate the once in a lifetime celebration in Bromley on Tuesday 15 May.  'London as a Global Centre of Fashion' will see Queen's Gardens and the Glades Shopping Centre transformed with fashion exhibits, celebrations of British fashion designers from the past 60 years and fashions of the future.

"The Queen's Diamond Jubilee truly is a once in a lifetime event as it has only ever been celebrated once before in Britain for Queen Victoria .  Bromley is set to be filled with patriotic revellers so why not come along and join in with the party atmosphere in the town centre.  2012 is a very exciting year for Bromley and our special Jubilee celebrations will make it a very memorable one" said Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal and Recreation.

Bromley town centre will play host to inspirational displays and exciting interactive installations, which will also include a very special 'Jubilee Road' street party.  There will be a party atmosphere in Bromley High Street all day with live music, roving entertainers and much more.  Falconry displays and a Duke of Edinburgh exhibition will also be put on show in Queen's Gardens throughout the day.

Coolings Garden Centre is sponsoring a lasting memory of the Diamond Jubilee in Queen's Gardens with a large crown made from living plants to commemorate the special event.  Designed by a pupil from Marjorie McClure School in Chislehurst, the crown has been especially commissioned by the Garden Centre as part of Bromley's celebrations and will be unveiled in May.  A special Jubilee plant bed has also been created by Thyme Out, the horticultural training initiative, to be displayed in Queen's Gardens.

For anyone who misses out on the event, some exhibitions and decorations will be on show around the borough until the Bank Holiday weekend in June.

Look out for more details about the event closer to the date.
