The Queen visits Bromley for Diamond Jubilee celebrations

The Queen was given a Royal welcome in Bromley as crowds of well wishers lined the streets for her visit to the town centre.

Bunting lined the streets and school children waved the British flag as Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh entered the town centre on their way to a preview of the special public event in Queen's Gardens. The atmosphere in the High Street was jubilant as the Royal couple walked into Market Square and made their way down to Bromley South in the Royal car.

"It was a great privilege to welcome Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh to Bromley town centre in what was a very memorable day for everyone involved.  Our residents showed their community spirit to turn out and create a fantastic atmosphere to pay tribute to a very special Monarch.  We were honoured to showcase what Bromley has to offer in this landmark year for the borough" said Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of the Council.

The unique all day public event commemorated The Queen's special anniversary in Bromley as The Queen visited as part of the UK Diamond Jubilee tour. 'London as a Global Centre of Fashion' saw Queen's Gardens and the Glades Shopping Centre transformed with fashion exhibits, celebrations of British fashion designers from the past 60 years and fashions of the future.  There was a party atmosphere in Bromley High Street all day with live music, roving entertainers and much more.

Talented primary school pupils won a competition to design outfits for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh and the winning designs were made into full size outfits by a professional seamstress and milliner.  The finished outfits were displayed in the Glades shopping centre all day. The Queen's winning outfit included a blue diamond themed dress, with matching hat and handbag. The Duke's winning outfit had a navy blue, gold and black theme with a top hat.  Falconry displays and a Duke of Edinburgh Award exhibition also featured in Queen's Gardens throughout the day.  Coolings Nurseries sponsored a large crown in Queen's Gardens in celebration of the Jubilee, made of living plants.
