Beckenham town centre improvement scheme - public consultation underway

Published Tuesday, 3 March 2015

Consultation is now underway on plans for improvements to Beckenham town centre.

This follows work alongside architects and key stakeholders in the area to create the plans following the allocation of funding.  The concept design plans are available to view on the Council’s website and a series of events will give further opportunities to view and comment on the plans.  This stage of consultation will run until Friday 27 March 2015. The £3.2 million scheme, funded in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) will improve Beckenham High Street.

“We have been working closely with key stakeholders from the town and have now prepared our initial concept designs.  We now want to hear from residents, businesses and others so if you are interested come along to our exhibition event or visit our website to view the plans.  We are committed to improving Beckenham town centre and encouraging new investment to the historic area, which will support its future vibrancy” said Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal and Recreation.

An event for businesses, residents and community groups with opportunities to view plans for the area and comment on the scheme, will be held in the town centre during the consultation process.  On 12 March from 11.30am to 8pm, there will be an exhibition at the Citygate Church at 22 Rectory Road, Beckenham for people to view the concept designs and discuss the plans.

The Council has worked closely with local residents and community groups throughout the process of producing an improvement strategy and public realm concept designs for Beckenham High Street.  The quality of the public realm would be improved by including coordinated and harmonious design, reduction of street clutter and an emphasis on the ‘village’ identity.

The plans and consultation documents will be available for viewing and downloading at  Comments in writing can be made to: Beckenham Town Centre Improvements, Town Centre Renewal Team, Renewal and Recreation Department, Civic Centre, Stockwell Close, Bromley BR1 3UH.
