Protecting and preparing yourself

There are some simple measures you can take to help protect yourself, your family, friends and colleagues:

  • Catch it – always carry tissues and use them to catch your cough or sneeze
  • Bin it – dispose of your tissue as soon as possible
  • Kill it – wash your hands as soon as you can

Be prepared and:

  • Establish a network of ‘flu friends’ – friends and relatives – who can help if you fall ill; they could, for example, collect medicines and food for you
  • Make sure that you have an adequate amount of paracetamol-based cold remedies in the house in case you become ill

Latest news on council plans and services

We have contingency plans in place to maintain key services and ensure that we are ready to support Bromley PCT and our community if the situation escalates.

Schools
We are treating the presence of swine flu as we would any other form of flu virus. Schools remain open in term time in line with HPA guidance, even if they have some confirmed cases. In most situations, closing the school will not substantially reduce the risk of infection. Should circumstances change, parents and carers of children attending Bromley schools will be contacted directly by the school concerned.
