Freedom Passes for older people
You will now be able to apply at any Post Office either in Bromley or in another participating London Borough to obtain your Freedom Pass. Please see below for further information.
Freedom Passes enable older people to travel free on nearly all public transport within Greater London as detailed below.
Who could benefit from/use this service
Men and women 60 years and over permanently living in the London Borough of Bromley.
Details
Freedom Pass holders can travel free on public transport as follows:
Buses:
Free travel on all buses in the London Transport network.
Monday to Friday 9.00 am until 4.30 am the next day.
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays at any time.
Underground:
Free travel on tubes and the Dockland Light Railway.
Monday to Friday from 9.00 am until the last train.
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays at any time.
Railways:
Free travel on nationalrail within the Greater London area.
Monday to Friday from 9.30 am until the last train.
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays at any time.
Trams:
Free travel on Tramlink.
Monday to Friday from 9.00 am until the last tram.
Saturday, Sunday and public holidays at any time.
Boats:
Freedom Pass holders can get a discount on many Thames river boat services. Please telephone 020 7222 1234 for further details.
Costs
There is no charge for a Freedom Pass.

You should go to any Post Office either in Bromley or in another participating London Borough. You cannot apply for a Freedom Pass on behalf of anyone else. You can
download a freedom pass application here to complete and bring with you.
When you apply you must provide
ONE document proving name and age and
ONE document proving the address that is on your application form.
Please bring with you:
If you are renewing your freedom pass:
Your existing freedom pass photocard. If the photograph in your current photocard is not a good likeness please bring 2 passport sized photographs.
If you are applying for your first freedom pass: 2 recent passport-sized photographs of yourself.
All applicants must bring: Proof of name and age: Please bring one of the following:
- current Freedom Pass and photocard;
- pink driving licence (paper or photocard);
- letter of pension entitlement;
- birth certificate if it shows your current name;
- current passport;
- medical card.
Proof of address:
Please bring one of the following:
- current council tax payments book/bill/letter;
- current council/housing association rent book/statement/letter;
- current TV licence.
Or
The following items only if dated in the last three months:
- residential utility bill;
- residential bank/building society statement;
- residential credit card statement;
- Benefits Agency letter;
- letter on your pension entitlement or occupational pension
- HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) letter.

Further Information
What if I lose or damage my Freedom Pass?
If you lose or damage your Freedom Pass please follow the procedures set out in the Next Steps section above.
You may be asked to give details of how the pass was lost. If possible, a new pass will be issued immediately although in some cases it will be posted to you instead.
If several passes have been lost, you may be required to attend an interview to discuss the matter further.
