Freedom passes for people with disabilities
All Freedom Pass holders must renew their passes by 31st March 2010 in order to continue to enjoy free travel on London's buses, tubes and trains.
Holders of disabled persons passes will be contacted by us individually and advised what to do.

Who could benefit from/use this service
Men and women under 60 registered as disabled with the London Borough of Bromley.
You may be eligible for a Freedom Pass if you are:
- blind;
- partially sighted;
- deaf/hard of hearing;
- without speech.
or have a
- learning disability;
- disability or injury which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to walk;
- disability or health problem that would prevent an application for a driving licence being approved.
Such conditions would include epilepsy, severe mental disorders and conditions which cause sudden attacks of giddiness or fainting.
Also included would be any disability that is likely to mean that your driving could cause danger to the public.
Details
Freedom Pass holders can travel free on public transport as follows:
Buses:
24 hour free travel on all buses in the London Transport network.
Outside of London, national pass holders are able to travel free between 9:30 am and 11:00 pm Monday to Friday, all day at weekends and on public holidays.
You will need to show your freedom pass and photocard to the bus driver.
A freedom pass is only valid outside London if it has a red rose logo, and a security hologram. The pass is not valid on tram, light rail, metro or train services outside London.
A minority of disabled passes are issued at the discretion of the council and so under Government legislation are not valid for use outside London. These do not have the red rose logo and security hologram.
Railways:
Free travel on most local rail services, between 9.30 am and 4.30 am the following morning Monday to Friday, plus all day at weekends and on public holidays.
On some routes Freedom Pass holders may travel free 24 hours.

The freedom pass is NOT valid for travel on train services operated by Arriva CrossCountry, Grand Central, Hull Trains, East Midlands Trains, Gatwick Express, National Express East Coast, Virgin Trains, and Heathrow Express, or on Heathrow Connect between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow.
For travel beyond the freedom pass area you must buy a separate extension ticket before you travel. Please show your freedom pass at the ticket office when buying tickets. Holders of Senior and Disabled Persons Railcards may be able to obtain a discount on the price of extension tickets.
Trams:
The Freedom Pass is accepted 24 hours a day, every day
Boats:
Freedom Pass holders can get a 50% discount on many Thames river boat services. Please telephone 020 7222 1234 for further details.
The Woolwich ferry is free to all users at all times.
Costs
There is no charge for a Freedom Pass.
Next steps and conditions
Applications for Disabled Persons Freedom Passes are processed at Bromley Civic Centre. You can download an application form here to complete and bring with you or alternatively you can collect application forms from Bromley Civic Centre.
Once you have completed your application form you will need to include the documents listed below and take or send them to Bromley Civic Centre to be processed.
Please note that successful applicants will need to take their Letter of Authority to the Post Office in person and provide one passport-sized photograph and proof of identity in order for a Pass to be issued.

Please bring one of the following:
- Current Freedom Pass (expires 31 March 2010 with Photocard).
- letter of pension entitlement
- current passport
- medical card
- birth certificate (unless your name has changed)
- current Driving Licence (Paper or Photocard)
A copy of ONE of the following must also be provided to prove you live in the London Borough of Bromley:
- Current Council Tax Bill/Letter/Payment book
- Current Housing Association Rent book/Statement/Letter
- Current TV Licence
Or ONE of the items below, dated within the last 3 months:
- Residential Utility bill (excluding Mobile Phone bills)
- Residential Personal Bank/Building Society Statement
- HM Revenues & Customs letter
- Department for Works & Pensions letter
- Occupational Pension letter
- Private Credit Card statement
In addition, if you are applying for your first freedom pass or renewing your existing one, you will need:
1 recent passport-sized photographs of yourself.

Further Information
What if I lose or damage my Freedom Pass?
If you lose or damage your Freedom Pass please follow the procedures below.
You need to contact the London Councils Freedom Pass call centre on 0845 275 7054 or 020 7934 9633. These lines will be open between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. You can e-mail them on mobility@londoncouncils.gov.uk
If your pass has been lost or stolen, you will be asked for further details as to how and when it was lost or stolen, as well as asked to verify your name and address details.
If your pass is faulty, you will be asked when and where the fault occurred, as well as the nature of the fault. You may be asked to try the pass on a different card reader at a different location, to see if the fault persists.
Replacement passes will be sent out within 10 days, to your home address.
Please note that if several passes have been lost, you may be required to attend an interview to discuss the matter further.
