The Adoption Team is responsible for all the adoption work undertaken within the Department. This involves domestic, inter-country and step-parent adoption; birth records counselling; post-adoption support; and counselling to birth parents who consider relinquishing a child for adoption. We need to recruit more adopters for Bromley so that our children do not have to wait for a new family. On average about 5% of children looked after by the Council are adopted each year and the majority of these children are placed with adopters recruited by the Adoption Team in Bromley.

Eligibility

We are looking for people, 21 years or over - individuals, couples and families from all ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds - who want to enter into a life-long commitment to parent other people's children. We are very interested in hearing from anyone living within an hour's travelling distance of Bromley who wants to adopt.

Details

In  Bromley we believe that every child needs to experience a safe and happy childhood growing up securely attached to adults that love them. For most children this will be with their birth parent(s) or within their birth families, but some children will need new parents - and this is where you come in! We especially need adopters for the following groups of children:

  • black African and black African-Caribbean children of all ages;
  • sibling groups of three or more children;
  • older children aged 5 - 12 years;
  • children with moderate to severe physical and/or learning disabilities;
  • children with challenging behaviour.

Next Steps

There is a duty social worker available Monday afternoons between 2.00 pm and 4.30 pm and Wednesday and Friday mornings between 9.00 am and 12.30 pm to deal with enquiries about any aspect of adoption.

For further details about adoption use the information request form.
