Orpington Parking Scheme - Frequently Asked Questions
When do the new parking arrangements start?
They are already in operation and were 'rolled out' from October 2006.
How long will these temporary arrangements be in place?
This depends on the speed of construction, but 24 months is the estimated time to complete the new development
What times will the new parking zone operate?
Generally the parking zone in Orpington will operate from Monday to Saturday during the working day. You will need to look at the time restriction sign where you park for exact times of operation.
Did the Council consult about this?
There was a 6 week consultation period. Questionnaires were delivered to properties within the proposed zone. In addition, details were available on the Council's website. We have incorporated some of the suggestions into the scheme.
If a parking place is located opposite my house, can I get on my drive safely?
You should be able to access your drive safely. Following the comments we received, we have looked at the scheme quite closely and taken some bays out or not installed them where roads or driveways are narrow. If you experience problems, please
contact our Traffic team.
I live in one of the affected streets within the scheme and I don’t have off street parking. How can I park near my home?
You may be eligible to apply for a residents' permit.
Further information is available here.
As someone with a disability, I’ve always shopped in Orpington because it has easy access. Has that changed?
No, if anything, it is even easier to park. You can still park in the existing ‘disabled’ bays ‘on street’ and one car park solely for 'blue badge holders'. In addition, we are providing new bays around the town centre.
These bays are displayed on a map available here.
Will I still be able to get deliveries to my door? Also, where will tradesmen or visitors to my house be able to park? What about longer stays, such as removals?
Yes, as in any area where there are parking restrictions, vehicles can stop to allow the loading and unloading of goods.
Visitors' permits are available in some areas. Visitors and tradesmen can pay to park like other motorists when the parking restrictions are in operation.
Dispensations are available for longer stays, such as removals.
What will happen when the new store and car park opens?
There will be a review of all parking restrictions when the scheme is completed.
What are the parking charges for 'mobile phone parking'?
The charges for 'mobile phone parking' are the same as paying by 'pay and display'. However, with 'mobile phone parking', charging is on a minute by minute basis. Further information on
parking charges for 'mobile phone parking' is available here.
