Accident reduction measures
We use a wide variety of accident reduction measures across the Borough. Contact us if you have a road safety issue that you believe needs further investigation.
Details
There are many different types of accident reduction measures but they generally fall into one of the following categories:
- Physical traffic calming measures - these include signs, safety cameras, road humps, chicanes, pedestrian crossings and mini roundabouts. Further information on physical traffic calming measures is available here.
- Education - we take part in high profile publicity and awareness campaigns to change the public’s perception of inappropriate speeds, increase seat-belt usage and support other Government initiatives. Our Road Safety Unit also provides information to all school age groups and to parents of pre-school children.
- Enforcement - we are working with the Police and The Mayor of London to introduce a speed limit enforcement action plan to help achieve a unified approach.
One (or a combination) of these measures is introduced at top priority sites, as part of our accident investigation and prevention programme.
Next Steps
Call us or write if you have a road safety issue that you believe needs further investigation. This could be a request for us to investigate the need for a new sign, pedestrian crossing or other traffic calming measure.
Further information on traffic calming measures is available here. Our road safety targets and how we plan to achieve them is available here in our
Road Safety Plan.
