Complete Driving Course - FAQs
Why should I do this course?
We all pick up bad habits as drivers. Driving styles change, as well as the rules of the road. This course is really a refresher, a reminder of what we, as drivers, should be doing.
I am not a very confident driver. Will this course help me?
Yes! Many people are not confident on today's busy roads and are reluctant to drive on unfamiliar roads. Learn how to scan ahead for possible hazards and be prepared to deal with anything that comes your way.
What sort of things does the course cover?
We discuss and explain:
- roundabouts;
- motorways;
- driving at night;
- driving in bad weather;
- skid control (and how to avoid skids!);
- basic car maintenance;
- use of gears and steering;
- hazard awareness; and
- defensive driving.
What do we do on the course?
The tuition is in the classroom, although much less formal than at school! We use a Power Point presentation with videos, fun highway code quizzes (which you mark yourself so you can keep your score to yourself!) and plenty of questions and discussion. Join in or just sit and listen - it's up to you.
If the course is all in the classroom how does my driving improve?
It's up to you to put into practice what you learn on the course. You don't have to put in lots of hours, just try to improve each time you get into the car.
How do I know my driving is getting better?
Towards the end of the course you can, if you want to, have an "observed drive" with an observer from the 'Institute of Advanced Motorists.' It's a short 45-minute drive and the observer will give you feedback on your driving. And don't worry, we can't take your licence off you! This drive is included, free, as part of the course.
Is there a driving test during the course?
No, there is no driving test during our course, although we hope you will want to go on to take the Institute of Advanced Motorists' test.
How much will it cost to do the IAM test?
To join the IAM as an associate member for six months costs £30.
The test then costs £50, which includes £15 membership of the IAM for the first year.
