Bromley has a dedicated officer to help schools implement Travel Plans. Travel Plans help to reduce single occupancy car journeys and promote the use of sustainable modes of transport such as walking, cycling, car sharing and public transport through fun educational measures.

Details

The Government wants all schools by 2010 to have a school travel plan. To help schools implement a travel plan the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) is awarding all non-independent schools capital grants to write a plan.

Primary schools are entitled to £3,750 plus £5 per pupil. Secondary schools and Special schools are entitled to £5,000 plus £5 per pupil.

Travel plans are not huge lengthy documents. It is a simple document that has aims and objectives with simple and fun initiatives to achieve your aims.

All schools can write a travel plan; however, only non-independent schools are entitled to the capital grant from the DfES.

If you would like to write a travel plan or you require further information please contact the School Travel Plan Officer – Louise French.
