There are 45 conservation areas in Bromley. The council has designed each one because of its special architectural or historic interest. Designation aims to protect an areas character and appearance by managing change in a sympathetic way. This is done through town planning legislation and the Local Plan (Policies 41,42 and 43).
There are some additional planning controls in conservation areas and trees are given protection. Supplementary Planning Guidance notes have been prepared for most of our conservation areas to assist residents and developers. Find out more about making a planning application.
Proposed Shortlands Village conservation area
Bromley Council is seeking your views on the proposal to designate a conservation area for Shortlands Village. The proposed area has been informed by an independent report produced by the Built Environment Advisory and Management Service (BEAMS)
The BEAMS report concludes that the proposed area warrants designation as a conservation area due to its special historic and architectural interest; and because conservation area protection would ensure that the areas distinctive character would be preserved and enhanced going forward.
The council is seeking views on the three designation options identified in the report. The consultation will run until 19 October 2020.
We have prepared a survey to capture views about the proposal.
Written responses can also be sent by email to: email@example.com, or by post to: Planning Policy and Strategy, Civic Centre, Stockwell Close, Bromley, BR1 3UH.
Following this consultation, comments will be considered and reported back to a future meeting of the Development Control Committee, who will then determine whether or not to formally designate the proposed conservation area.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you require any further information about the consultation.
