Introducing minibeasts (KS1)*

Pupils will meet a variety of minibeasts and the habitats they occupy.


This is a course that can be done at any time of the year. The day will include a range of sensory activities to help understand life as a minibeast, searching for and collecting minibeasts, and a chance to get to know some of the creatures in greater depth.

  • Observe variety of habitats and invertebrates
  • Aactivities to understand life in the minibeast world

  • Collection of animals 
  • safe handling and care of animals
  • observational activities in the classroom including drawings 
  • adaptations including movement, feeding and breathing
  • comparisons and simple groupings of animals

    Early Learning Goals (ELG):
    Knowledge and understanding of the world - exploration and investigation; find out about and identify some features of living things
    Mathematical development - shape, space and measure

    Attainment Target (AT) 1: 1a
    AT 2: 2b, 2e, 2f, 2g, 4a and b group living things according to observable similarities and differences

    Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) relevance:
    Science units: 1A, 2A, 2B
