A heartfelt congratulatory message on behalf of Bromley borough residents is being sent to Emma Raducanu, a borough resident, following the news that Emma has reached the US Open tennis final.
Emma, who also attended school within the Borough, is the first qualifier to reach a Grand Slam final and will be the first British woman in a major singles final in 44 years.
Councillor Kate Lymer, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Children, Education and Families said, “Everyone in Bromley and indeed the nation is absolutely delighted by what Emma has achieved and the way she has conducted herself as well. Massive congratulations to Emma for getting this far and of course, we’ll all be cheering her on in the final and dreaming about what might come next. Bromley’s schools have a reputation for helping pupils achieve outstanding results and I know that everyone at Newstead Wood and Bickley Primary School in particular will be extremely proud of what Emma has achieved, with the excellent facilities, including the Bromley tennis centre, being part of this.”
Councillor Lymer continued, “There are so many examples of what young people can achieve in so many different spheres, and Emma is a brilliant example, and we hope that she will continue to flourish and strive for even greater success, which is the same ambition we have for all our young people.”
