Residents are being reminded that one week remains until the deadline for comments on important proposed planning guidance for the whole of Orpington Town Centre, following hundreds of responses having already been received.

Residents, businesses and others interested in the town centre are encouraged to give their views on the Orpington Town Centre Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) before 1 July. This will help to shape the final guidance document, which will guide future development in Orpington. Submissions can be made at www.bromley.gov.uk/Consultation.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: "Thank you to the good number of residents and groups who have already submitted their thoughts about this vital piece of planning guidance. We want to make sure that all residents and local groups are aware of this consultation and have the chance to take part in the next week before the deadline. These proposals will greatly influence the developments that come forward in Orpington and it is vital that we seek as many views as possible, so the guidance can reflect the priorities of those who live, work, and spend their leisure time in the town."

The consultation has had over 580 responses so far. When adopted, the SPD will be used to help determine future planning applications in the town centre.

Orpington town centre, lying to the Southern end of the Cray Valley, has a major influence over a large part of the borough, providing shopping and leisure facilities for a large number of residents. The SPD supports existing planning policy set out in the Local Plan and the London Plan and will help to protect and enhance the vibrancy and character of the town centre to enable it to adapt and thrive.
