Best selling author and presenter Kate Lawler will be at Bromley Central Library for a reading and Q&A about her new book, before taking to the DJ booth as part of wider entertainment on offer.

The Library Lates event forms part of Bromley’s programme to bring more life to the town centre in the evenings following Bromley's selection to be one of London's three Night Time Enterprise Zones. The free drop-in event on Thursday 27 April will run from 6 to 10.30pm, and will see the likes of a cocktail masterclass, street food vendors, a gaming bus and live music.

Kate Lawler, local Sunday Times bestselling author, presenter, podcaster and radio host will be reading from her new book, Maybe Baby before answering questions from the audience. Kate will then be DJing in the silent disco for some of the evening in the foyer of The Churchill Theatre.

Further activities on the night include Lego for adults, craft activities, musical performances, heritage walks, access to unseen archives, and much more.

Councillor Yvonne Bear, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said: “What an exciting night for Bromley that I’m sure will be of interest to many residents and visitors, with this special book reading by Kate Lawler set to be one of the many highlights. Given the wide range of engaging activities on offer, there really is something for everyone on the night, showing once again how innovative our library service can be in serving the local community. Bromley town centre already has such a great range of shops, bars and restaurants for all to enjoy and I am glad we are continuing to deliver events such as these alongside our partners to help build the appeal even further.”

London’s Night Czar, Amy Lamé, said: “Bromley has put together a fantastic programme of activities for local residents and visitors at night, and it’s wonderful that Kate Lawler will be reading her book and hosting a silent disco as part of Bromley’s Library Lates initiative. This event is yet another example of how the Mayor of London’s Night Time Enterprise Zones are helping boroughs across the capital to thrive after dark. By working with communities across London, we are helping to build a fairer, more equal, and prosperous city for everyone.”

Library Lates will look to celebrate local storytelling throughout the night, from a guided evening walk from Bromley Civic Society, showcases from the Bromley Museum, and including the celebrity book reading.

The Library Lates event is the first in a series of exciting evening events that forms part of Bromley’s programme as one of the Mayor of London’s Night Time Enterprise Zones. Bromley Town Centre has been selected as one of London’s three new Night Time Enterprise Zones, enabling the town to boost activity after 6pm.

In addition to this event, there will also be an interactive Celebration of Sports event on 25 July, and a winter lights spectacle in October. Alongside this entertainment, town centre improvements such as lighting upgrades will be delivered to ensure a welcoming high street is created.

The Night Time Enterprise Zone will see over £250,000 invested in events and improved infrastructure in Bromley town centre with Bromley Council and partners, Your Bromley, collectively providing match funding to the grant received from the Mayor of London.  The event programme is also being delivered in partnership with Greenwich Leisure Limited, Proactive Bromley and Your Bromley.
