Following many welcome nominations across the borough, Francis Chappell & Sons in Bromley town centre have been selected as the best decorated Coronation shop.
The Mayor of Bromley met the Francis Chappell Bromley team to present a certificate and prize of a £100 gift voucher, donated by the Glades, with one of the team hand-knitting the Coronation crown and the rest of the display, which features King Charles. Over 70 welcome nominations were received in the best decorated shop competition, with one of the photographers who nominated the winning shop receiving a £50 Glades voucher for the best photograph.
Councillor Hannah Gray, the Mayor of Bromley says: “I have seen many illustrious shop displays from across the borough and am so pleased to award this prize to Francis Chappell and Sons from what was a very competitive field! Thanks to all the residents who sent in their impressive photos of these shops that have captured just some of the Coronation enthusiasm that has been sweeping across Bromley. I look forward to seeing even more of Bromley’s great community spirit on show as I tour the borough’s street parties over the bank holiday. I never fail to be impressed by the commitment of our residents and businesses, proving once again that we are proud of Bromley!”

Residents are also invited to a live screening of the Coronation service in Queens Gardens in Bromley town centre on Saturday 6 May. The screening starts at 9:30am and provides an opportunity for friends and family to come together and enjoy a picnic, while watching the festivities, with a host of family activities also available from the library service and Clip Theatre.
Expect face painting, storytelling, a chance to make a royal crown or create bunting, or even try on regal robes at the Royal Throne photo booth. A selection of toys from the past will also be brought down from 10-11am, plus learn more about the Broom flower with Bromley Civic Society, the flower from which Bromley takes its name that is still known to flower locally.
After the Coronation proceedings have finished, residents might enjoy heading to ‘The King’s Dinner’ puppet show that will be held in Bromley Central Library in the small hall on the 4th floor.
A further screening of the Coronation is also taking place in Orpington, Market Square, which is being delivered by Orpington 1st BID alongside further activities.
