Work to construct FC Elmstead’s new modern club house is underway in Chislehurst Recreation Ground.

The new club house, including changing facilities with showers and toilets and a café, will replace the existing pavilion building which is in poor condition and is being demolished as part of the project. The club house, which is being built by FC Elmstead, is supported by Friends of Chislehurst Recreation Ground (FOCRG), with the café and community toilet facilities to be used and open to members of the public and the wider park community.

Fabio Rossi, FC Elmstead’s Chairman said, “This will be a major step forward for FC Elmstead and for Chislehurst Recreation Ground when the work is complete. Successful football clubs need good facilities and the new club house, which will comply with the FA’s current standards, will help sustain FC Elmstead’s steady improvement over the years. We would like to thank local people for their support, to get this far and of course, the FOCRG.”

Barbara Arora, Chairman of FOCRG, who is also Chair of Chislehurst Playing Fields Association said, “Football provides a focal point to our Recreation Ground but there is so much more than football to the Rec too, with the children’s play area and places to walk and exercise for instance, including dogs too. We care passionately about the Rec and making it a focal point for local people and if you have not visited, why not pop by? It would be great if you wanted to join our group – please do make contact.”

Councillor William Huntington-Thresher, Executive Councillor for Environment said, “We are delighted to be able to support this exciting project which demonstrates what can be achieved with vision, partnership, a ‘can do’ attitude and sheer hard work. I would like to thank those at FC Elmstead who have worked so tirelessly on this project, with the support of FOCRG and the council’s parks management contractor, idverde. If this is story has inspired you to get involved with your local park, why not go online and see how you could get involved.”

The £360k construction project follows successful grant funding applications and planning permission being granted. The total cost of the project is estimated to be £363,864, with the grateful assistance of the following organisations who awarded a grant:

  • The Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund £258,865
  • Chislehurst Playing Fields Association £50,000
  • Chislehurst Society £20,000
  • London Marathon Charitable Trust £19,999
  • FC Elmstead £15,000

It is estimated that the club house will be completed in around 6 months’ time.
