Blue Badge misuse: heed the warning and avoid a criminal record

Published Wednesday, 23 January 2019

Once again, Blue Badge holders’ relatives are being warned not to misuse the badge following further prosecutions brought as part of the council’s ongoing campaign to prevent misuse.

Eleven more drivers have been ordered to pay fines totalling £5,944 for misusing a Blue Badge, with almost all of these cases involving a Blue Badge belonging to a relative.

Councillor Kate Lymer, Bromley’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection and Enforcement said: “If you are driving on behalf of a Blue Badge holder as a relative, friend or carer, please make sure you use the badge in accordance with the scheme rules.  Our officers are required to be vigilant in their daily checks and anyone caught misusing a badge will face prosecution, with a criminal conviction, fine and publicity which follows.”

The eleven drivers who were caught displaying a Blue Badge when the holder was not present were:

  • Miss Alexis Lovell, Viney Road, Lewisham
  • Miss Samantha Briley, Homelands Place, Biggin Hill
  • Mr Graham Cocks of Farmfield Road, Downham
  • Mr Colton Belgrave of Greyhound Road, Tottenham
  • Mr Avtar Aydee of The Glade, Shirley
  • Mr Craig Storrie of Redland Road, Barnsley
  • Ms Simone Valentine of Arica Road, Brockley
  • Mr Inderjeet Singh-Teek of Carden Road, Nunhead,
  • Mr Jacques Hildenbrand of Grail Road, Catford, and
  • Ms Marie McLean of Knights Hill, West Norwood
  • An unnamed Orpington resident who is a parent

All offences took place between the 24 May and 15 August 2018.  Three of the drivers are Bromley residents and only one of the Blue Badges displayed was issued by Bromley Council, with the other 10 Blue Badges issued by other local authorities.
