Junction reconstruction work in High Street, Bromley, closes road
Published Friday, 8 March 2019
Junction reconstruction work means that there will be a full three way road closure of Bromley High Street, Elmfield Road and Ethelbert Road from Monday.
The work starts on Monday 11 March, with the work expected to last for approximately 6-7 weeks.
No vehicular access will be available in the High Street from the junction with Ringers Road, meaning that there will be no vehicular access to Elmfield Road or Ethelbert Road from the High Street. The road closures will affect all traffic, including buses with disruption kept to a minimum during these essential works.
The bus lane entry/exit on Kentish Way (A21) at the junction with Elmfield Road will be suspended during the closure to allow vehicular access to Elmfield Road at all times. There will be a signed diversion in place for traffic needing to access Elmfield Road via Masons Hill, Kentish Way and into the current bus only section past Elmfield Road. Road markings and permanent signage will be covered over whilst the temporary diversions are in place to minimise driver confusion along with Variable Message Sign (V.M.S.)
Traffic will only be able to exit left onto Kentish Way (A21) from Elmfield Road, with motorists wanting to turn right being advised to travel through the town centre diverted via the town centre.
Access to Ethelbert Road will only be available via Ravensbourne Road with the no entry signs being temporarily removed at the junction with Ringers Road. The one way system on Ethelbert Road will be suspended during the closure period, thereby allowing drivers and riders to travel both ways in the road for access. Traffic wanting to exit Ethelbert Road will still be able to exit using Ringers Road as normal.
No buses will serve Elmfield Road or the southern part of the High Street between the junctions of Elmfield Road and Westmoreland Road, with temporary bus stops located on Kentish Way.
