As part of Bromley Council’s Environmental offer reduced-price compost bins and water butts are available to Bromley residents.

For those that want to plan ahead and order now, it’s a great way to start the gardening season. Compost bins are made from green recycled plastic and available in a range of sizes so there’s one that’s just right. The subsidised cost for compost bins starts at just £8 plus delivery for the smaller 220 litre size, it’s ideal for smaller households. Water butts help store water and keep your garden green – especially during the hotter months to come. Water butts cost from as little as £15 for the 100 litre size not including delivery.

Councillor William Huntington-Thresher, Executive Councillor for Environment and Community Services said “Composting at home makes both financial and environmental sense.  Residents can join our ever popular green garden waste collection scheme but composting at home is an easy and effective way to minimise garden waste and some food items too.  Whilst it is not generally advised to compost all food at home, vegetable peelings and the like are great for composting alongside garden waste.  A good home compost will help your garden bloom without additional spend.”

Composting is a great way to make use of leaves, grass cuttings, shredded paper, and fruit and vegetable peelings, while a water butt will ensure you have water for your garden all year round and reduce rain water runoff whilst avoiding metered water costs.

Bromley residents might also want to consider joining the council’s Green Garden Waste Collection Service, for those that have a lot of green waste to dispose of.  This is available either as a regular collection with a wheelie bin or on a pay-as-you-go bag and sticker collection service.
