COVID-19 business assistance helpline launched

Published Wednesday, 22 April 2020

A new business assistance helpline, including a new business portal website has opened today to support businesses with in this period.

The news follows the receipt of over 2700 requests from businesses for government grants which the council is responsible for administering. Around 1000 businesses have already been paid and when all eligible businesses are reached, just over £50 million will have been paid.

“In recognition of the critical position that businesses face in this unprecedented situation, we have increased the numbers of staff dealing with applications as well as providing an enquiry helpline too. We are providing updated advice on our website on how to complete the application form and it is critical that businesses do include their business rates account number as this is part of the validation process” said Councillor Graham Arthur, Executive Councillor for Resources.

Councillor Arthur continued, “We are looking to distribute the funding as quickly as we can mindful of our responsibility with this public money to stop fraudulent claims. Progress is being made and whilst we are also contacting businesses directly to encourage all eligible businesses to apply, we are grateful to the business community for their continued patience.”

Businesses who have already made contact about grant funding are being contacted directly but businesses who want to know what is happening with their submission can contact the Business Assistance Team, with the online form being the most efficient route, with the telephone assistance line also available.

Businesses can visit www.bromley.gov.uk/COVID-19BusinessSupport. Alternatively, the new Bromley COVID-19 business assistance line number is 020 8313 4897, with the line open Monday to Friday, 7:30am til 5:30pm.
