Business grant application deadline looming

Published Friday, 31 July 2020

The few businesses who may still be considering applying for a government grant are being encouraged to urgently submit an application ahead of an impending cut-off date.

Over £45.7m has been paid to 3,186 businesses since the beginning of April when the Small Business Grants and Retail Hospitality and Leisure Grant schemes were launched, with this grant funding initiative coming to a close in just a few weeks’ time. The news follows government confirmation that the funding for the scheme is stopping at the end of August.

Councillor Graham Arthur, Executive Councillor for Resources said, “We do not believe there are very many businesses who may still be eligible and have not applied. But, understandably, when a business has to focus on numerous factors in these challenging times, we recognise that some businesses may not have completed their application yet. If your business is in this situation, now is the time to act. We are doing everything in our power to make sure that any eligible Bromley borough based business does not miss out.

The news also follows earlier confirmation that the vast majority of eligible businesses (88%) have already claimed the funding, with grants supporting the local economy and specifically shops, cafes, hotels and many other businesses. Additionally, £1.8 million has been paid to businesses as part of the Local Economy Business Grants scheme with further applications being currently considered.

Councillor Peter Morgan, Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said, “We are assessing the final applications from businesses for the discretionary Local Economy Business Grants and will be in touch with these businesses fairly shortly, with our approach designed to support as many locally based businesses as we can. I would like to thank the business community for their support and understanding in what we know is an incredibly difficult and stressful period and I thank the Business Support Task Force for their input too. By working together, we are making a difference, even in these difficult times.
