Bromley’s Mayor, Councillor Hannah Gray, led the borough in an act of remembrance on Sunday 8 November.

As churches are closed in the second Covid-19 lockdown, the Mayor attended a reduced ceremony at the Bromley War Memorial and will lead the borough once more in quiet contemplation in the two minute silence on Remembrance Day at 11am on Wednesday 11 November.

The Mayor said: “I feel a great sadness that we could not meet to commemorate the heroes of our uniformed forces on this important and poignant occasion and I know many of you share my emotion. However, regardless of where we were at 11am on Remembrance Sunday, or on Remembrance Day on 11 November, I know we are united in our thoughts to honour those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

“Parades could not take place this year as social distancing was not possible, but some local organisers explored alternative ways that the community were able to pay tribute to our war heroes, without the need for a parade.

“Many stood united on doorsteps to observe the two-minutes silence ‘together’.

“We held a short service involving wreath laying by dignitaries at the War Memorial on Sunday with the video uploaded to the council website.

“Many remembered from the quietness of their own home this year and by supporting virtually, and many will take part again from their homes on 11 November and some may take their exercise to our War memorials, remembering to maintain social distance from anyone not from your household.”

“Whatever Remembrance you decide, please make sure that everybody stays safe and rest assured that no matter the circumstances - we shall never forget.”
