Small Business Saturday

Published Friday, 20 November 2020

Shoppers are being encouraged to support small businesses on Saturday 5 December 2020.

The news follows the nationwide campaign to support and promote the UK’s small businesses, some of which have had difficulty during the coronavirus pandemic. Customers can support all types of small businesses - online, in offices and in stores. Many businesses are taking part in the day by hosting events and offering discounts with the aim of having a lasting positive impact on their small business.

Councillor Peter Morgan Executive Councillor for Renewal, Recreation and Housing said “We know how difficult and challenging it has been for small businesses but we should try to support them all we can. There is a wide choice of businesses in the borough, including the smaller ones and start-ups. Our message is: Give others a go! You might usually shop online at the bigger stores for example but you might be bowled over at what’s on offer and get great service into the bargain – plus you may find your item costs less, too.”

Chandra Sharma of the Federation of Small Businesses said: “Once again, Small Business Saturday will be taking place soon, show-casing the added value that smaller firms make to the London economy. The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is urging everyone to support independent businesses in whatever way they can, particularly with the high costs of doing business”.

The council is committed to working with businesses, including large and small ones, where it can. Businesses in the borough should visit for information and advice.
