Skoda has withdrawn a Fabia child seat after crash testers warned that
it was dangerous. A dummy child was ejected from the Isofix-secured
chair in a 40mph head-on smash. The dummy was left hanging over the
parcel shelf, with official Euro NCAP testers commenting that its head
had collided with the car's roof. Such injuries could prove fatal in
a real-life accident.

The recall is an embarrassment for the Czech firm because its engineers
had nominated the seat for Euro NCAP to test. It later emerged that the
chair had not been approved for use in the Fabia, although is safe in
other cars from the firm.
