Following recent negotiations among Central Government, the Local Government Association and Trades Unions, proposals for reform of the LGPS have been agreed.  A new Local Government Pension Scheme will be introduced in April 2014, to include a move to a career average scheme, with an accrual rate of 1/49th of pensionable earnings each year, and a retirement age in line with the state pension age.

All accrued rights are protected and benefits built up to April 2014 will be linked to final salary when members leave the scheme.  There will also be transitional protection for current LGPS members aged 57 to 59 at April 2014.

Detailed information about the 2014 scheme can be found on the national LGPS member website.
