A proposed development for an Aldi supermarket on the A21 at Farnborough Way was refused on Wednesday 9 March at Development Control Committee.

The rejected proposal was for the construction of an Aldi supermarket with over 1,000sqm of retail space and the demolition of the existing Frankie and Bennie’s restaurant building.  The Ward Councillors also opposed the application.

Councillor Alexa Michael, Chairman of Development Control Committee, said: “Following a good discussion of the planning considerations, Councillors had strong concerns about the size and position of the building, with the resulting loss of amenity for local residents.  This is always a key consideration in Bromley. The out-of-town location of the supermarket would mean customers having to relying on their cars to shop at Aldi. This in turn would lead to more traffic and congestion in the locality, and a generally negative impact on the environment."
