Prison sentence for cold caller prompts warning

Residents are being warned to be extremely wary of anyone cold calling at their home offering to do work
The warning follows a trial at Inner London Crown Court where a man has been sent to prison for 4 years having been found guilty of fraud after a 3 day trial.
The court heard that in December 2016 a Bromley resident then aged 70 was cold called by a man who claimed that a pigeon was stuck in her loft. She allowed him into the loft and he told her that there was a hole in her roof letting water in. He said that the wood in the loft was rotten and needed replacing. She agreed for him to make the necessary repairs and gave him a cheque for £8000.
