Support for Operation Close Pass
Published Wednesday, 22 August 2018
Drivers are being reminded to overtake cyclists at a safe distance following a ‘Close Pass’ operation by the Metropolitan Police’s Cycle Safety Team and the council’s Road Safety Unit.
The initiative aims to reduce the numbers of people killed or seriously injured on the roads and educate drivers by making them aware that the Highway Code recommends leaving cyclists as much space as you would when overtaking a car. During the operation, plain clothes police officers on bicycles equipped with video cameras highlighted “Close Passes” - drivers overtaking dangerously near to cyclists.
