Evening leisure events and market activities will be delivered in Bromley town centre alongside high street improvements to boost the night-time economy.
This follows Bromley’s successful bid to be nominated one of London’s three Night Time Enterprise Zones. The initiative will see over £250,000 invested in events and improved infrastructure in Bromley town centre.
A series of night markets will be set up next year to accompany a variety of special events in the town centre, which aim to increase footfall later into the evening.
Evening library activities such as an interactive celebration of sports, and a Winter lights spectacle will feature among these special events. Alongside this entertainment, lighting upgrades will be delivered to ensure a welcoming high street for everyone. A borough-wide night-time economy strategy will also explore potential activities across other town centres.
This initiative will build on an upcoming project to deliver two youth markets and an eight-week workshop programme in Bromley town centre that aims to bring more young people to the high street through interactive market activities that appeal to their interests. These events will take place in the new year and form part of the High Streets for All Challenge. Bromley Town has long acted as a central hub for residents due to its extensive retail and entertainment offering and, following the pandemic, demand for things to do locally has been increasing. I look forward to seeing this investment boost evening activity in the town centre by making a series of special events available to enjoy locally. Bromley Council is delivering the night-time events in partnership with Your Bromley, the town centre’s Business Improvement District, having collectively provided match funding to the grant from the Greater London Authority to fund the planned activities. An additional grant of £140,000 has also been received for the High Streets for All project which will see the council working with a number of partners, including, Your Bromley BID, the Glades, Bromley Education and Business Partnership, MyTime Active, GLL, and Bromley Youth Council.
Further details about Bromley’s Night Time Enterprise Zone will be confirmed following a decision by the council’s Executive at the end of November.
