Close to 1000 street trees have already been planted as part of the council’s Treemendous planting initiative which began last November.

The street tree planting initiative, the largest single arboriculture investment in Bromley’s history, will see 5000 new trees planted over the next four years. The scheme also supports the council’s objective of net zero emissions by 2027.

Councillor Will Harmer, Chairman of Environment and Community PDS Committee, said: “I am really pleased with the progress we have made with tree planting this season, and we’re now ahead of schedule with our planting programme. A huge thank you to our brilliant Tree Friends for their commitment, which will come into its own in the warmer summer months when additional watering will really help. Especially if you live near one of these newly planted trees, please get in touch and become a Tree Friend.”

As planting continues and Bromley’s street scene becomes even greener, residents are being invited to become Tree Friends. By watering young trees, particularly in the summer period, Tree Friends help to ensure the newly planted trees flourish in the early stages of their life. In addition to making a more attractive street scene, the Treemendous £1.35 million planting initiative will also help support the health of residents, with research showing that people are more likely to walk or cycle to work if the streets are lined with trees and live longer and feel better as a result.
