Covid-19 cases in Bromley are constantly monitored by the council, with the public health team working closely behind the scenes with Public Health England to help prevent the spread at local level.
Extra measures are put in place as necessary and the council’s own contact tracer staff get in touch with residents who have been in contact with positive cases to make sure they are taking the right action and have the support they need to self-isolate and help stop further transmission.
The council has been working tirelessly since the start of the pandemic to give advice to residents, organisations, schools, care homes and businesses as well as tackle outbreaks as they occur. Also, there has been close collaboration with Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS colleagues to ensure that those who are eligible have the information they need and are able to get vaccinated.
Extra localised testing is sometimes put in place to check on the spread of Covid-19 and any variants and to identify any asymptomatic cases - with one in three positive cases showing no symptoms, people may be inadvertently spreading the virus.
A current example of this work is focussed on the small but potentially concerning uptick in cases observed in the Biggin Hill area, over which the council is currently in discussion with CCG and NHS colleagues to determine how and where to provide local residents with extra opportunities to get their vaccine.
Council Leader, Cllr Colin Smith said: " We are continuing to work with our NHS colleagues to ensure that eligible residents who have yet to get their vaccination, will be able to obtain them even more easily than before now at local ‘pop-up’ clinics, with more details about Biggin Hill in particular to follow shortly. Our public protection team will also continue to check on our high streets and offer advice and guidance to organisations and businesses, with a renewed effort in areas such as Biggin Hill where the number of new infections have been edging upwards.
Please help them and play your own important part in the process by sticking rigidly with the ‘hands’ ‘face’ ‘space’ and ‘fresh air’ routine until it is safe to stop doing so.
The sooner we end the spread of new infections, the sooner we can return to our previous lifestyles, so between us all, let’s make it happen. We are not quite out of the woods just yet, so please remain alert and take good care of yourselves."
