3 and 4 Year Old - Universal funding

How does it work?

Every 3 and 4 year old child is entitled to 570 hours of universal funded early education per academic year. This is equates to 15 hours of funding per week over the school year (38 weeks). However, the funding offers complete flexibility, allowing you to access the 570 hours over anything from 38 to 52 weeks. Different providers offer different options on how funded hours are distributed throughout the year.

Important to know

Children become eligible for the 3 and 4 year old universal funding from the term following their 3rd birthday.

How to apply

Great news! You don't need to apply for the 15 hours universal funding as it is available to all children from the term after they turn 3 years old. Your chosen nursery, pre-school, or childminder will handle the necessary arrangements for you. You will need to provide proof of your child's age to your chosen provider.

Maximizing flexibility and choice

You have the freedom to use your child's 15 hours with up to 3 childcare providers (with a maximum of 2 providers on the same day). This enables you to mix and match providers based on your preferences, ensuring the best fit for your family's needs.
