What is Homeshare?

Homeshare is a scheme which matches older Bromley residents who could benefit from some company and low-level support at home (a Homeholder) with someone looking for affordable accommodation in return (a Homesharer). The Homesharer moves into a spare room and, in exchange, provides 10 hours a week of practical help and companionship.

Homeshare is not a care service. Homesharers do not provide personal care, and Homeshare is not registered with or regulated by the CQC. It is a low-level, non-regulated arrangement built on companionship and mutual benefit.

Homeshare is delivered on behalf of the London Borough of Bromley by CCGA Healthcare Group.

Who is Homeshare for?

Homeholders are usually older adults living alone in Bromley who would welcome some low-level support and friendly company at home.

Homesharers can be anyone seeking affordable accommodation in Bromley, including students, key workers, or young professionals who are happy to help out and keen to be part of someone’s daily life. This includes, but is not limited to:

• People looking for affordable housing close to work or study
• People who enjoy company and want to support someone in their community
• People able to commit to 10 hours a week of practical help

How does the scheme work?

Homeshare provides an alternative to living alone for older residents, and an alternative to high housing costs for Homesharers, while promoting independence and reducing loneliness on both sides.

Every application goes through an assessment, including an enhanced DBS check and reference checks, before anyone is put forward for matching.

Matching process:

Matching is about making sure Homeholders and Homesharers are right for each other.

Things taken into consideration include:

• The day-to-day support the Homeholder needs
• The Homesharer’s availability and circumstances
• Shared interests, routines, and personality fit

Introductory period:

Once a potential match is identified, there will be an initial meeting, followed by a short trial period before anyone moves in, to make sure both people are happy with the arrangement.

Fees:

Homeholders pay £15 a week.
Homesharers pay £45 a week. 
Both fees are inclusive of household bills.
