Please do not attend our offices if you, or anyone with you has tested positive for Covid or any other infectious disease. This is for all registration appointments and ceremonies.

All births that take place in the borough of Bromley must be registered within the London Borough of Bromley.

Appointments

The easiest way to book an appointment to register a birth is using our online diary.

Book an appointment

Booking online means you can browse the diary for the most convenient time and you will be able to amend or cancel appointments easily.

You can book by calling us on 0300 303 8667, but you will be offered the next available appointment only. This service is open Monday to Friday 8.30am -5pm.

Appointments are currently available at three locations.

The majority offered are from the Bromley Civic Centre and will be conducted in the Register Office, Level 1, Stockwell Building.

Appointments are also available on certain dates at the Community Vision Children and Family Centre, Penge and Blenheim Children and Family Centre, Orpington.

Please note that there is no parking at either of the Children & Family Centres, and you will have to find parking on street nearby.

  • If you are married or in a civil partnership, only one of you needs to attend the appointment as only one of you signs the registration
  • If you are not married to or have not formed a civil partnership with each other, and the mother wants baby’s father’s/parent's details to be entered into the register, then both baby’s parents will need to attend the appointment, for further information, please visit: https://www.gov.uk/register-birth/who-can-register-a-birth
  • Anyone else attending with you will not be able to wait with you or come in with you to see the registrar
  • It is preferable if baby, and siblings do not attend the registration appointment
  • The registration will take about 15 to 20 minutes
  • Baby's full names and date of birth together with place of birth. You will be asked to confirm your preferred spelling of all names and any accented characters.
  • Parents' full names, including any previous names, occupations  and address or addresses
  • Place and date of birth of both parents
  • Date of marriage/civil partnership of parents (if applicable)

Please remember to bring baby’s red book or baby’s discharge papers showing baby’s NHS number with you when you attend. To help ensure the accuracy of the information recorded it would be useful if you could bring supporting documentation with you (e.g. passport, driving licence, utility bill, birth and marriage/civil partnership certificates, as applicable). Do not worry if any of these documents are not available as the registrar can still proceed to register the birth, but it is helpful if you remember to bring baby’s red book or your hospital discharge papers showing baby’s NHS number.

You will be asked to thoroughly check the register entry. It is your responsibility to read this very carefully before signing to acknowledge the information recorded is correct.

Once you have signed the register page any corrections will cost a statutory fee of £90, and the process can take up to 8 weeks to complete.
