Crofton Roman Villa is the only Roman villa open to the public in Greater London. It was inhabited from circa. AD 140 to 400 and was the centre of a large farming estate.

Proposed refurbishment works

The council proposes to refurbish the Crofton Roman Villa between late 2025 and early 2026 including replacement of the roof, doors and windows, new internal and external fittings, finishes, public signage and a new accessible toilet.

The exhibition design proposes to include:

  • External signage, graphic treatments to windows and interpretative planting at entrance
  • External and internal murals
  • Internal educational panels carrying graphics, models, replica objects and interactive material
  • Internal furniture and lighting

The council’s regeneration team is seeking your views on the proposed designs.

Public engagement sessions will be held at the temporary Orpington Library inside the Walnuts Shopping Centre on:

  • Wednesday 11 June - 9:30am - 5:30pm
  • Thursday 12 June - 4pm - 6pm
  • Saturday 14 June - 10am - 12pm

These sessions offer the opportunity to view the proposed designs, meet with the regeneration team and discuss the project in further detail.

You can also view the proposed designs and complete the feedback form online. The feedback form will be available until Friday 20 June 2025.
