Polling day

On Thursday 12 December 2019 there were elections to vote for the Members of the UK Parliament.

Polling stations were open from 7am until 10pm.

Who can vote in the election?

So long as you are registered, you can vote in the election if you are:

  • Over 18 and either:
  • A British Citizen residing in the United Kingdom or overseas or
  • A Qualifying Commonwealth Citizen (including Cyprus and Malta) or
  •  A Citizen of the Republic of Ireland

Voting

Bromley has responsibility for three constituencies:

  • Beckenham
  • Bromley & Chislehurst
  • Orpington

London Borough of Lewisham has responsibility for one constituency

  •  Lewisham West & Penge - which contains the wards of Clock House, Crystal Palace and Penge

In each constituency there will be one Ballot Paper – you will have one vote for the candidate of your choice.

Before the election a poll card will be sent to everyone who is eligible to vote.  Ordinary poll cards show when, where and how to vote.  The card is for information only and you do not need it to vote.

Poll cards

Due to the shortness of time, and in order to comply with the statutory timetable at these elections, poll cards had to be printed and despatched before we were able to confirm all of our polling stations. Unfortunately there have been changes to the arrangements in a few polling stations, as set out below

Ward & Polling District Ordinary arrangement Amendment made General Election arrangement
Bromley Common & Keston BC4 Southborough Lane, Baptist Church, Southborough Lane BR2 8BQ Change of polling place St James the Great RC Church Hall, Lakeswood Road, BR5 1AY

Additional signage will be put up in these locations.

Postal votes

Postal vote packs cannot be printed until nominations close in the middle of November, which means that some of these may not be dispatched until 7-10 days before the day of poll. Please see the key dates below for details. If this is not suitable, for example, because you are a UK voter living overseas or are going on holiday before this time you may wish to apply for a proxy vote instead.

* The days which are disregarded in calculating the timetable for a UK Parliamentary election are Saturday, Sunday, bank holidays and any day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning.

The 2 December (St Andrews Day) bank holiday in Scotland applies differently to the calculation of different dates within the election timetable; in some cases it is disregarded from calculations as dies non and in others it is not. As a result of this, and an amendment made to the Early Parliamentary General Election Bill 2019-20, the deadline dates for some parts of the timetable which would usually fall on different dates are the same (for example, the postal vote application deadline and the registration application deadline). Please be aware that the timetable may change in the event of days being appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning.
