Witnesses are being sought as part of an investigation regarding a series of fly-tip incidents. Anyone supplying information leading to a prosecution could be eligible for a £500 enviro-crime reward.

CCTV footage taken near the recycling banks in Chislehurst Recycling Centre appear to show two fly tippers involved in a series of incidents in April. The dumped sacks, filled with household waste, were left on the floor of the recycling bank. In the footage, both a man and a woman appear to remove large black bin bags from a dark coloured estate vehicle on 4 separate nighttime occasions. The numberplate was identified as 9547 FVG, which is not registered in the UK.

A council spokesperson said, “We investigate all fly-tipping incidents and will always take action to stop offenders. A large quantity of waste has been dumped indiscriminately around the recycling banks, which is completely unacceptable. Not only is this unsightly, it can actually also be dangerous. If anyone has information about who might be responsible for these fly tipping incidents, then we want to hear from them.”

The ongoing investigation is also a reminder that fly-tipping incidents are investigated, with offenders facing prosecution where the evidence exists, with CCTV being used to help deter potential offenders and aid investigations.

Witnesses who come forward with information that will lead to the prosecution of the specified fly tippers can expect to be awarded an Enviro-crime reward of up to £500. Information can be shared to www.bromley.gov.uk/envirocrime.

Residents who come across dumped rubbish are also being reminded that they can report incidents, www.bromley.gov.uk/report so it can be quickly removed. Witnesses are encouraged to make a good description of the individuals and/or vehicle involved in the incident. It is not generally advised to approach the fly tipper and to alert the police if possible.

These fly-tip incidents have also prompted a reminder to others not to leave any waste around recycling banks nor misuse the recycling facilities, which can be dangerous, is unsightly and deters others from recycling. Offenders also risk prosecution. On the rare occasion the nearest recycling bank is full, residents are asked to please dispose of household waste at the next available location.
